Los Angeles Marathon Pre-Race 5K with My Mentee and the Blind Children’s Center

Saturday, March 14, 2015 | Los Angeles, CA – The weather was perfect for this year’s Los Angeles Marathon Pre-Race 5K at Dodger Stadium. I was asked by one of my mentees and undergraduate students at USC, Karen Arcos, to be her running guide to finish the race for the Blind Children’s Center charity. Not only did we successfully complete the 5K, but we also beat her record!

Karen has been walking and running the 5K since she was a little girl. She remarked that her first “race” her mom pushed her in a wagon. Since then, she’s been determined to participate in the race every year, and I was of course honored to run with her.

To donate or volunteer with the Blind Children’s Center, visit: www.blindchildrenscenter.org. They will be holding a number of charity golf tournaments shortly, so if you want to get involved (whether you have a nice golf swing or not), reach out to them. Thanks for reading!
