National TRIO Achievers Award

Thursday, September 6, 2012 | New York, NY – I want to thank the Council for Opportunity in Education for honoring me with a National TRIO Achievers Award, along with 5 other national awardees. The banquet was held on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the New York Marriott Marquis in Time Square, the site of COE’s 31st Annual Conference. This year’s conference theme was entitled, “Educational Achievement: America’s Bottom Line”, attended by over 2,000 personnel from across the country. The event was hosted by John Quinones, Co-Anchor of “Primetime”, host of “What Would You Do?”, ABC News.

Like me, my cohort of awardees overcame obstacles to pursue their educational and professionarl careers. They included Rodelyn Alcidonis, Principal Attorney at Alcidonis Law Office, LLC; Raquel Aldana, Professor of Law and Director of the Inter-American Program at McGeorge School of Law; Alvin Brown, Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida; Nannette Jolivette Brown, Judge, United States District Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana; Stephen Perry, Principal and Founder of the Capitol Preparatory Magnet School and Commentator for CNN.

In 2011, I had the humble privilege of also being a recipient of the Regional TRIO Achiever Award from the Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program. Thank you to Ms. Corris Davis for nominating me at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
