Hope for Firefighters Charity Event and Supporting LAFD’s Mission and Goals

Thursday, June 4, 2015 | Los Angeles, CA – The 18th Annual “Hope for Firefighters” Event benefiting the Los Angeles Fire Department Widows and Orphans and Disabled Fireman’s Fund, coveted as the “largest firefighter event of its kind in the nation” was held this past Thursday in downtown Los Angeles on Hope Street. It was my first visit to the event, and this was after a series of serendipitous events that occurred during the week which led me to connecting with the LAFD in the first place.

After a wonderful call earlier in the week with key representatives at the International Association of Firefighters and my possible interest to assist with issues pertaining to diversity outreach and culturally competent programming next year, I was then introduced to stakeholders in my home city, Los Angeles. Almost instantly, Tony Gamboa and Frank Lima from #112 took me under their wings, invited me to the charity event, introduced me to local leaders, and reached out to assist me in my goal to study and understand the innerworkings of the fire service and how to help in bettering the greater good of the community and fire service personnel themselves.

I’m excited to see what is in store for the next 8 months before the conference, and I look forward to coming up with tangible solutions toward ameliorating longstanding issues that departments of all persuasions face coast to coast.

STAY TUNED! Onward!
